The Area

Correze offers visitors a rural retreat and the chance to enjoy some splendid, unspoilt countryside. There are over 5000 kms of rivers (the Vezère, the Correze and the Dordogne) plus over 40 lakes. This will suit those in search of outdoor pursuits such as fishing, walking, canoeing etc.  To the east, towards the Massif Central, the landscape becomes wilder and mountainous - ideal for dairy and sheep farming. Here, you'll find isolated hamlets and farms. In the southeast the countryside is more accessible and there are some noteworthy Romanesque churches.

Close to the borders of the Lot, Dordogne and Cantal (Auvergne), this paradise of peace and tranquillity in an undiscovered land of hills, woods and secret valleys is a a utopia for walkers, cyclists, equestrian and water enthusiasts. Medieval Chateaux and Churches, some of the most beautiful villages in France, (Collonges la Rouge, Salers amongst others) cultural festivals, canoeing on the Dordogne, some of the best food in France are all within easy reach. Or you can just chill out and lay by the pool, forget the tourists, pollution and stresses of modern life and relax in complete privacy and peace except for the sound of the birds, and odd rutting stag.

A Correze holiday experience is superb because locally you have the best of rural France. Walk, cycle or drive on quiet roads. Enjoy the space amongst the rolling hills, lakes and forests. This is really spectacular countryside. There is very little traffic and you’re more likely to come across deer than vehicles. Cycling around the lanes and lakes is a great way to see the countryside. Explore the beautiful Dordogne Valley, full of interesting towns, monuments, vineyards, chateaux, and fortresses. The Dordogne Valley has a wealth of picturesque towns and villages such as Argentat, Beaulieu sur Dordogne and Martel. The Bergerac and Bordeaux wine regions are within striking distance. An hour and a half away is the Massif Central mountain range & its ski resorts.
