The house
Van Gogh is a characteristic French cottage, perched on a hill in the

was built in 1940 in a typical French way with many small windows with shutters,
a country style kitchen on the ground floor with French doors to the terrace and
a separate sitting room with a fireplace upstairs. All the rooms are spacious,
comfortable, and tastefully furnished. The large dining table with comfortable
chairs will invite everyone to stay put for hours enjoying sumptuous home-cooked
meals of many local specialities and wines. The oak wood staircase brings you to
the first floor, where a cosy sitting room with a fire place is the right place
for a book, a movie or just a good conversation. The bedrooms and bathrooms are
on this same floor. Next door to Van Gogh is Monet, an identical house, but with
an extra triple bed room.

loungers, umbrellas and a picnic table on the terrace. If you need to get out of
the sun on your terrace, you can find ample shade close to the stream, the Glane
that flows along the garden into the river Dordogne just after 100 meters.
Domaine Gleny
Overlooking the ruins of the old monastery of Gleny and only a 10 minutes
drive from the beautiful town of Argentat, this group of four typical rural
French houses perched against the slopes of the Limousin hills offer everything
you need for a peaceful and rewarding holiday. If there is a heart of France, if
the expression La France Profonde – deep France – has any meaning, this is where
to find it. For simple rural charm, Limousin is hard to beat. It has Forests,
lakes, gorges, castles, and volcanic ancestry. There is warmth and old-fashioned
courtesy about the people of this region, which makes any visitors welcome.
The whole area is well known for its beautiful scenery, excellent food and wine,
and some world-famous tourist attractions wild unspoiled countryside deep into
the real rural France. Nearby you can also find golf, horse riding, canoeing,
and beautiful countryside for walking, cycling and touring. Nevertheless for
those who are less energetic there is fishing for which this region is so famous
for or take a stroll along the riverside at Argentat in memory of the Gabare
boats men of bygone days……The town of Argentat has shops and an array of
restaurants and other excellent eating-places, many of which are right on the
banks of the river Dordogne. The whole area is well known for its good food and
wine; there are many places to go within easy reach. Also worth a mention is the
presence of many caves in the area, including the very famous Gouffre de Padirac.
This is essentially an enormous series of underground lakes, and they can be
accessed through a hole which sinks deep into the earth. This really is a sight
to behold, and photography is difficult within the caves and could never capture
the scale and beauty of this natural phenomenon. However, they do take a photo
of you on the underground boat ride as a souvenir. Not far away is Rocamadour.
This town has been built spectacularly up the side of a hill and has been a
pilgrimage site of great importance since the middle ages.
Activities
The area has even more to offer. The roads are quiet and perfect for cycling.
There are many maps available for hiking and VTT, mountain biking. Also horse
riding, climbing, golf and delta-wing flying can be done in this area. The birds
and wild life is the woods attract many hiker and spotter. And chanterelles and
other mushrooms can be picked in autumn.
Location
Gleny is part of the community Servières-le-Chateau and is about 8 km north
east of Argentat on the Dordogne.
